About Us
Founded by Carolina Schaffer, SMART Food Safety Solutions, LLC is driven by the belief that properly implemented Preventive Controls, Active Managerial Controls, robust food safety systems and a strong food safety driven company culture are the cornerstone of our nation's food safety future. After a successful 20-year career in the hospitality industry, in 2004, Carolina transitioned into the regulatory food safety field, a move that would profoundly shape her professional journey. She spent the next 15 years of her career in various roles of increasing responsibility beginning as a food safety inspector, manufactured food specialist, and government analyst. It is there that she discovered a deep passion for food safety. Reflecting on her career change, she says, “It was a game changer for me; for the first time in my life, I finally understood what food safety really meant.” This newfound passion led her to establish SMART Food Safety Solutions, LLC in 2019, combining her extensive hospitality and regulatory experience, formal education, and in-depth understanding of food safety compliance and training.
Carolina graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, majoring in Animal Science and Industry with a minor in Food Science. She is HACCP Certified, a Seafood HACCP Alliance Trainer, and a Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI). Additionally, she holds certifications in Food Science and is certified as a Food Safety Regulator, Retail Food Regulator, Food Foundations Regulator, and Certified Food Protection Manager.
