About Us

Carolina Schaffer, founder SMART Food Safety Solutions, LLC.

At SMART Food Safety Solutions, LLC, founder Carolina Schaffer believes with conviction that the future of food safety in our nation rests on a foundation of diligently applied Preventive Controls, proactive Active Managerial Controls, robust food safety systems, and a company culture passionately dedicated to safety.

Carolina's path to creating SMART Food Safety Solutions is both unique and inspiring. After two decades thriving in the hospitality industry, she made a transformative move in 2004, stepping into the world of regulatory food safety. For the next 15 years, she embraced several roles in that field where she truly discovered her calling. "It was a game changer for me," Carolina shares, "for the first time in my life, I finally understood what food safety really meant.” This profound realization fueled her desire to make a greater impact, leading her to establish SMART Food Safety Solutions, LLC in 2019. She seamlessly merges her rich experience from both hospitality and regulatory fields with her formal education and deep-seated knowledge of food safety compliance and training.

Carolina holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Kansas State University, with a focus on Animal Science and Industry and a minor in Food Science. She is a Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI) Lead Instructor, HACCP Certified, a Seafood HACCP Alliance Lead Instructor, and a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM). Her expertise is further underscored by certifications from the Association of Food and Drug Officials as a Retail and Manufactured Food Regulator and Food Foundations Regulator.
